Alpine skiing live: Alta Badia giant slalom in the live ticker | 12/18/2023 10:00 am

11:02

Fabian Gratz (GER)

A pity. Gratz also had to finish his race shortly after the start. This means he can’t do anything good in the fight for a better starting group.

11:01

Joshua Mettler (SUI)

Mettler copes better than his teammate, but it will be a tight box for him too in the second round. It’s exactly 30th place at the finish.

11:00

Marco Fischbacher (SUI)

Shortly after the finish, Fischbacher falls far behind. Over the next few interim periods the deficit increases until the Swiss unfortunately drops out.

10:58

Livio Simonet (SUI)

Simonet doesn’t start badly at the top, but then has to lose a lot of time. That probably won’t be enough for round two.

10:54

Justin Murisier (SUI)

Murisier gets along better, but it doesn’t look really harmonious or relaxed. The pace is also not right and then the path to the destination will of course be long. Rank 21 so far.

10:53

Mathieu Faivre (FRA)

Faivre can’t cope either and has to work hard for every swing. He doesn’t come close to the lightness that we’ve seen so often from him. The Frenchman reaches the finish line exhausted and disappointed.

10:51

Hannes Zingerle (ITA)

Zingerle takes his turns a little too long in the upper part, but doesn’t make any big mistakes. But then he slips away and has to fight for the next goal. With that, the momentum and rhythm was gone. It could also be tight for him in round two.

10:49

Thibaut Favrot (FRA)

Can Favrot build on his good performance from yesterday? He is rather cautious and doesn’t choose the most aggressive line. It’s enough for 18th place initially.

10:48

Victor Muffat-Jeandet (FRA)

You can tell from Muffat-Jeandet that the piste here is not without its problems. He can’t get into the rhythm he actually needs and now has to worry about the second round.

10:47

Sam Maes (BEL)

Maes is offensive and copes very well. A mistake in the middle costs him time, which means he ends up in 17th place. It’s a shame, because it was going really well until the mistake.

10:45

Patrick Feuerstein (AUT)

Feuerstein has to fight for the connection at the top and is rather slower. He also takes a few hits, but still does quite well. But it’s simply not enough to get into a good starting position for round two.

10:43

Erik Read (CAN)

That was over quickly. The Canadian slips away and slides past the next goal.

10:40

Alexander Steen Olsen (NOR)

The Norwegian copes better, but he also has to fight and does one or two wild actions on the snow. “Well,” he says at the finish. Let’s see what that means for him in the second round.

10:39

Tommy Ford (USA)

Ford has to work incredibly hard, then twists completely and comes to a stop. Seconds that add to the already not so fast time and end up really hurting. Because the last part was fine again.

10:37

Giovanni Borsotti (ITA)

Borsotti also got off to a nice start after the start and actually got along quite well. However, further down he makes a few mistakes and he simply can’t keep time.

10:36

Atle Lie McGrath (NOR)

The Norwegian chose a very clever line here and can get through the course properly. In the end, that’s enough to rank just behind Kristoffersen. That was a strong performance!

10:34

Luca de Aliprandini (ITA)

After a reasonable start, the Italian makes a serious mistake and has to slow down properly. Otherwise he just can’t get it right and is over four seconds behind.

10:33

Thomas Tumler (SUI)

Tumler has a few problems, loses pace and always has to be careful not to lose his balance. Eleventh place initially.

10:31

River Radamus (USA)

Radamus copes better than his predecessors, but also has to struggle with the slightly weakening slope. A mistake took away his pace and that ended up putting him in Alex Schmid’s area.

10:27

Raphael Haaser (AUT)

It looks a bit like Haaser is having a lot of trouble finding his footing on the slopes. This is more work than enjoyment and of course takes a toll on time. He is also absolutely not satisfied.

10:26

Filippo Della Vite (ITA)

Things are also getting off to a relatively slow start for the Italian. The run doesn’t look particularly harmonious, and the snow piles up quite often. He reaches the finish, but is almost three seconds behind.

10:24

Alexander Schmid (GER)

Let’s see if Schmid can break this mini-series of eliminations. He starts a little cautiously and doesn’t want to make a mistake here. Schmid seems to be slower than the leaders and has to put up more and more time. In the lower part he also seems to be running out of strength. First place ninth.

10:22

Joan Verdu (AND)

Vandu shows his confidence and starts strong. But then he leans a little too far in and slips away. This is the third elimination in a row.

10:20

Rasmus Windigstad (NOR)

Windigstad also takes it out briefly, but he is able to save himself initially. Shortly afterwards, however, he finished his swing much too late and no longer made it through the next gate.

10:18

Stefan Brennsteiner (AUT)

Oh no! After a somewhat hesitant start, the Austrian is lifted and he flies into the net. But he quickly stands again. Hopefully nothing happened to him.

10:16

Manuel Feller (AUT)

Can Feller turn yesterday’s disappointment into a good result today? He tries, but steers towards the gates a little too closely and of course loses time as a result. That was a run that Feller is not at all happy with. He can do that much better. A pity.

10:14

Gino Caviezel (SUI)

He has to fix some problems in the upper half. The Swiss doesn’t really get into the flow here and lags behind all the athletes who have competed so far.

10:12

Loïc Meillard (SUI)

Meillard is coping much better today than yesterday, but halfway through the route he is already over half a second behind. He also loses a lot of time on the way to the finish and initially has to finish in sixth place.

10:10

Alexis Pinturault (FRA)

Odermatt’s time really seems to have been worth a lot. Pinturault runs a clean race here, but doesn’t come close to the Swiss from above. In the lower part he also seems to be running out of strength a bit.

10:08

Zan Kranjec (SLO)

In the upper part, Kranjec is more cautious. Dust also collects more often in the middle section and that of course slows you down. Towards the finish line he tried again to get something out. But that doesn’t work anymore.

10:07

Filip Zubcic (CRO)

Zubcic makes his run very offensively, but then gets stuck on a goal! He stays on course, but of course that took time. Second place is then at the finish. How annoying!

10:05

Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR)

The Norwegian shows a solid race, but he can’t match Odermatt’s time either. As the slope continues, his ride seems more like work than ease. So he takes a good package with him into the second round. He’s a bit at a loss as to where he’s going.

10:03

Marco Schwarz (AUT)

Marco Schwarz chooses a slightly different line and doesn’t quite match Odermatt’s time. He has a few minor problems and is almost a second behind.

10:02

Marco Odermatt (SUI)

The first runner is on the Gran Risa and is off to a very good start. His run is calm and without any major mistakes. It takes him 1:14 minutes to complete the route.

09:56

The favorites

In addition to Marco Odermatt, who will start the race as the clear favorite, the two second and third place finishers from yesterday will also have a chance of getting back to the front. Filip Zubcic and Žan Kranjec were strong yesterday. But names like Marco Schwarz, Henrik Kristoffersen and Alexis Pinturault will also want to have a say.

09:50

Is Odermatt doing it again?

Switzerland’s line-up naturally starts with the clear favorite Marco Odermatt. He will open the race and just a little later Loïc Meillard (7) and Gino Caviezel (8) will also fight for top positions. A good position is also possible for Thomas Tumler (17) after the second round. Justin Murisier (30), Livio Simonet (32), Marco Fischbacher (35), Josua Mettler (36), Fadri Janutin (46), Lenz Hächler (62) and Sandro Zubrügg (67) complete the large Swiss squad.

09:44

Austria with good prospects

With Marco Schwarz, Stefan Brennsteiner and Manuel Feller, the ÖSV has a few athletes who can compete for the top positions. Marco Schwarz in particular will try again today to make it onto the podium. Raphael Haase will also look up rather than down. Patrick Feuerstein (24), Joshua Sturm (49), Noel Zwischenbrugger (56) and Fabio Gstrein (68) will continue to compete for the Austrians.

09:40

Can Schmid build on yesterday?

Alexander Schmid will be the first German to start with starting number 13. After finishing 17th yesterday, he will try again today to move up as far as possible. Top 15 can definitely be there.
For Fabian Gratz (37), Jonas Stockinger (54) and Anton Grammel (61) it is once again a matter of achieving a better starting position for the next races with good results.

09:36
