Thea Louise Stjernesund (NOR)
This time Thea Louise Stjernesund can’t cope at all and stumbles several times. In addition, the Norwegian is quite discouraged and drives far too many extra meters. In the end, a whopping two seconds are missing!
10:39
Alice Robinson (NZL)
You always have to have Alice Robinson on the bill. Especially when your trainer has set the course like this. But the Australian is too straight several times, gets stuck again and has problems with her aggressive style here. Robinson is fighting hard at the back and is currently second.
10:37
Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)
Lara Gut-Behrami is currently in top form. And the Swiss underlines that here after her great weekend in Cortina with a brilliant first round! The 32-year-old is already half a second ahead on the steep slope, picks up a lot of speed towards the finish and is almost seven tenths ahead of Sara Hector! This is now the benchmark against which the competition must measure itself.
10:35
Federica Brignone (ITA)
Federica Brignone wasn’t in as good a mood recently as she was at the start of the season. Will the Italian get back on track on home soil? As always, Brignone puts everything into it, attacks the goals and almost flies off once, but saves the run strongly. She was in the lead for a short time, but a few small slips on the steep slope cost her the lead.
10:33
Sara Hector (SWE)
Inspired by her recent success in Jasna, Sara Hector confidently throws herself into the slope and sets off steam from the first meter away. The Swede continually makes up time with her powerful swings, keeps the radius short and takes the lead!
10:32
Marta Bassino (ITA)
Marta Bassino has also shown improving form recently and is starting well here. At first the Italian is on par with Mowinckel, but at the end she runs out of steam a little. The swings become too long and Bassino loses another half a second.
10:31
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR)
Off we go! Ragnhild Mowinckel jumps out of the starting gate and opens the eighth giant slalom of this winter. The Norwegian rides the upper flat part very cleanly and then picks up speed on the steep slope. The timing is right, the turns are perfect and we cross the finish line in 1:01.25 minutes. That looked really good, but what’s the time worth?
10:28
The sun is shining
Kronplatz is once again bathed in bright sunshine today. The track is in very good condition and we can expect a very fast giant slalom. Who masters the challenges best? Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway will open the first round!
10:19
Will the knot break at the ÖSV?
The Austrian speed riders were able to celebrate twice recently. However, the ÖSV has not made much progress in the technology sector this winter. Only Franziska Gritsch and Julia Scheib were able to achieve two top ten results each, and we are still waiting for the first podium. In addition to these two, Katharina Liensberger and Stephanie Brunner in particular can be expected to achieve a good placement. The ÖSV line-up is completed by Ricarda Haaser, Elisabeth Kappaurer, Elisa Mörzinger, Katharinarupp and Katharina Huber.

Sextet from Switzerland
In the Swiss camp, hopes rest primarily on Lara Gut-Behrami. The 32-year-old could win her 42nd individual World Cup victory today and thus catch up with sixth-placed Swede Anja Pärson in the all-time best list. There are also five other Swiss women at the start: Camille Rast, Simone Wild, Mélanie Meillard, Jasmina Suter and Andrea Ellenberger. Michelle Gisin is missing due to injury.

Dorigo represents the DSV
From a German perspective, there is once again not much going on in the giant slalom. Only Fabiana Dorigo is there and wants to reach the top 30 for the first time this winter in her third attempt.

Lots of failures, lots of tension
The giant slalom at Kronplatz promises to be an extremely exciting event, also because several potential candidates for victory are not at the start due to injuries. In addition to the overall World Cup leader Mikale Shiffrin, Petra Vlhová and Valérie Grenier, who recently won the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, are also not taking part in the South Triol. The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami has already won twice this winter and leads the discipline rankings just ahead of Federica Brignone from Italy, who has also already won two giant slaloms. The Swede Sara Hector won the last giant slalom in Jasna.
Welcome!
Hello and welcome to the women’s giant slalom at Kronplatz! The first round starts at 10:30 a.m.!
