Ski racer Romed Baumann impressed with two top 10 finishes at the World Cup weekend in Beaver Creek/Colorado and spread hope early on in the World Cup winter.
At the Super-G on Sunday, the 2021 World Cup runner-up finished sixth, on Saturday the 36-year-old from Kiefersfelden landed in the same position in the downhill.
It was “really cool”, said Baumann after the first World Cup in the USA, “the conditions made it a difficult race. The podium would have been possible, but I’m still happy. I left a lot of good people behind me.” A departure planned for Friday had been canceled due to bad weather.
Things did not go as hoped for Thomas Dreßen in the Vail Valley. After his strong comeback in Lake Louise/Canada, where the five-time World Cup winner from Mittenwald finished eighth in the downhill at the start of the season, Dreßen had to settle for 24th place this time (1.99 seconds back) – also in the He did not make it into the top 20 in Super-G. Dreßen had not started in a World Cup off Lake Louise since March 2020 due to hip and knee surgery.
Overall, the World Cup went very well for the German Ski Association (DSV). In the second descent of the season, Dominik Schwaiger (13th) fulfilled the second part of the World Cup norm, Josef Ferstl (14th) got half the norm for the season highlight. Andreas Sander came in 19th.
Twice unbeatable was Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The Norwegian, already the winner of the first downhill of this season in Canada, won both races in Beaver Creek ahead of the Swiss overall World Cup leader Marco Odermatt.
