Former Streif winner Thomas Dreßen leads the German ski team at the Alpine World Cup races in Beaver Creek. After the descents on the Matterhorn planned for mid-November fell victim to the weather again, nothing stands in the way of the speed start in the USA next weekend.
The route was “greatly prepared in the first training session, so it was really nice to ski,” Dreßen said in a statement from the German Ski Association (DSV) on Wednesday. He “looked at everything carefully and knows what I have to do until the weekend so that I can be quick then.”
Dreßen won the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill run in Kitzbühel in 2018. After years full of health setbacks, he wants to attack again this winter and is considered a beacon of hope among the German speed specialists. In addition to the 30-year-old, Romed Baumann, Josef Ferstl, Simon Jocher, Andreas Sander and Luis Vogt also hit the slopes in Beaver Creek. There is a downhill run on Friday and Saturday, and a Super-G on Sunday (6.45 p.m. CET).
Dominik Schwaiger leaves injured
Dominik Schwaiger suffered a knee injury during training and has already left. An overstretching of the anterior cruciate ligament and a bone sprain on the tibial plateau in the right knee were diagnosed, the association said. The injury is treated conservatively, i.e. without surgery. Schwaiger could possibly be back at the races in Bormio, Italy, at the end of December.
