The Asturian driver ended up exhausted by the extreme temperatures and humidity at the Losail circuit: “One of the hardest races of my life”
Fernando Alonso has ended up exhausted, like most of the drivers, in a Qatar GP held under stifling heat and with a high degree of humidity. In full race Alonso He warned over the radio that his seat was on fire and even asked for water to be thrown at him during his pit stop. Despite his adventures, including two excursions to the gravel, sixth place has immense value, because it brings him closer to Hamilton in the fight to be third in the World Championship.
“It has been a tough race physically and also in terms of driving because we had some problem at the rear and the car was quite unstable”, he explained Fernandowho took a break after getting out of his car to recover, before appearing before the press.
“Of the hardest races I’ve ever done, I’m still sweating…” he continued. Alonsowho acknowledged that “we have had problems and the race has been difficult to execute, although it has been exciting at times to be on par with others”.
“We have exceeded our expectations by arriving here after the last races, which were complicated for us. In Monza we finished ninth, in Singapore we left with zero points and in Japan we were eighth, so this sixth is better than expected, a good surprise”.
Demanding, Alonso has pointed out that the result could have been even better if he had been able to chase Leclerc for fifth position, but on his second outing on the track he damaged the flat bottom of his Aston Martin, compromising his options: “We have lost some point in the race, We lost some piece of the fund and we have not been able to do more, we will see what we can do next time, in Austin.”
