Alok van Loon winner of Woman in the Media Award

Alok van Loon from Geeuwenbrug has won the Woman in the Media Award 2023 for Drenthe. Van Loon is secretary of the citizens’ initiative Meten = Weten, a foundation that is committed to drawing attention to the intensive use of pesticides.

Van Loon was nominated together with ten other Drenthe female experts. Other nominees included Annemiek Rens, chief curator Drents Museum and GZ psychologist Susanne Schoemans.

The nominees were nominated by journalists and the public. Ultimately, Van Loon was chosen by the jury as the winner of the award for expert women who appear regularly or impressively in the media.

With Measuring = Knowing, Van Loon has been committed to a healthy living environment without pesticides for years. Voters describe her as brave, knowledgeable, diplomatic and selfless. They write: “Alok remains creative and continually looks for new ways to serve a good cause.”

The regional award is part of the national Woman in the Media Awards. The jury for Drenthe consists of Mariëlle Nieuwenhuis, editor-in-chief News at RTV Drenthe, Bianca Kroon, jury chairman and private publisher at Authors College and Marjanne Teunissen, freelance journalist for, among others, the magazine Opzij.

A total of 35,000 people voted for the nominees. Van Loon is now competing for the national Woman in the Media Award 2023. You can vote for this until March 1.
