Take a guess: how many Easter eggs do Zoetermeer residents eat on average per year? Are there more than twenty, fifty or eighty? If you gave the first answer, you’re good.

A few years ago, HEMA researched how many Easter eggs Zoetermeer residents ate on average per year. That turned out to be – drum roll – 42 Easter eggs per person. A little math tells us that about 5.3 million Easter eggs are eaten in our city every year.
We do make a major comment here, because the study looked at the average of all South Hollanders combined. No distinction has been made in terms of age, gender or other characteristics; everyone is included in the count.
Fun fact: South Hollanders have a lot more Easter eggs than Flevolanders, for example, who ‘only’ eat 35 Easter eggs a year. The average for the whole of the Netherlands is 47, by the way. We are well below that.
Tempting sweets
Professor of Nutrition and Health Jaap Seidell explains to RTL Nieuws why people are so fond of eggs: “Easter eggs are incredibly tempting because they are small snacks that you can easily eat in between. In addition, they are cleverly packaged. Because they all have different colors and taste different, you actually want to taste all the colors, so you eat more of them.”
Have you gotten hungry yet? Then here are some tips:
- You can now score Easter eggs at almost all Zoetermeer supermarkets and in chocolate shops.
- Do you want a special copy? Then you can go to these Zoetermeer chocolatiers or supermarkets.
- Oh, and don’t forget the Zoetermeer bakers!
- Or visit HEMA and Kruidvat, for example.
