A body in an advanced state of decomposition has been discovered in the Belgian border municipality of Baarle-Hertog, a stone’s throw from the border with Baarle-Nassau. According to the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office, it concerns the remains of an 88-year-old man.
It is not clear how long he had been dead. The man’s partner found the body in a hotel on Saturday. According to the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, he was an American ex-pilot who had been renting a studio for a few months in the village, which is a Belgian enclave in the Netherlands.
The police are investigating the exact cause of death and say they have no indications of a crime.
