Almost 600 immigrants rescued in one of the biggest rescues of the year in the Mediterranean

He ship rescue ‘Geo Barents’ of the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has announced this Saturday that one of the saves with more immigrants rescued of the year in Mediterranean waters. In a single operation, 599 passengers have been brought to safety from a large barge endangered.

The operation, which has lasted for three hours, began after MSF received a notice from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of Italy to ask for rescue assistance. The passengers on the barge were in danger of shipwreck.

The crew of the ‘Geo Barents’ has ended up bringing the survivors to safety, among whom were women and children. The rescue ship has received safe harbor clearance in Bari (Italy), 40 hours away from the rescue area, as reported by MSF on its Twitter account.

Swimming in Ceuta

This same Saturday, 33 people have swum into Ceuta from Morocco. Immigrants have agreed by throwing themselves into the sea and swimming in different groups throughout the early morning and until noon.

Those who have reached the coast of Ceuta have ages between the ages of 23 and 28. They have entered through the border breakwater that separates Morocco and Spain on the Tarajal beach, until reaching different points of the coast of the autonomous city.

The Guard Civilian has intercepted them on the shore. This is the largest influx of immigrants through the border del Tarajal in a single day since 2021, when 12,000 people crossed the border between the two countries.
