Most Limburg municipalities saw their population increase. In Gennep, Peel en Maas and Valkenburg, the number of inhabitants increased by more than 1 percent. Peel en Maas was also the largest grower in absolute numbers, with 622 new residents. In Stein, Meerssen and Vaals the number of inhabitants decreased. The population of Maastricht also declined, although this is also due to the departure of students.
