Actress Alma Pöysti talks about the shyness of Finns in the well-known Vanity Fair magazine.
In the new Aki Kaurismäki Dead leaves Alma Pöysti, who stars in the movie, is gaining international fame. Suomalaistahtih has given a big interview to the respected For Vanity Fair magazine.
The interview describes how Pöysti is nominated at the Golden Globe gala for the award for best actress in a musical and comedy film. Competing in the same category are, among others BarbieMargot Robbie known from the movie and Black Swan – starred in the movie Natalie Portman.
The nomination came as a complete surprise to the Finn.
– I didn’t even realize what happened. I just heard someone say that the movie is nominated for a Golden Globe. I didn’t realize that I was nominated too, it was really crazy, Pöysti glows in the interview.

In an interview with a US magazine, Pöysti reveals how Dead leaves -the popularity of the film has affected his work situation.
– It has opened doors for me. I’ve had some great job offers and it’s exciting.
Kaurismäki does not want the Actors to rehearse scenes in advance. The scenes are shot in one take, so there is no room for improvisation, according to Pöyst.
The shyness of Finns also emerges in the interview.
– The movie is quite quiet. Finns are a notoriously shy bunch, and we enjoy our silence. A lot happens in those quiet moments. There is a lot of dialogue without words, Pöysti states.

Kaurismäki’s latest work has received a lot of praise from critics. The comedy-drama is one of fifteen non-English language films selected to advance to the Academy Award for Best International Film. However, the official information about the possible Oscar nomination will become clear on January 23.
The film industry’s prestigious Oscars will be handed out this year in Los Angeles on March 10.
