Last night, Finland’s time was celebrated and awarded to film and television industry stars in Hollywood. One of the candidates was the Finnish actress Alma Pöysti. She plays the role of the female lead, Ansa Aki Kaurismäki Dead leaves in the movie, which came out in the fall of 2023.

Pöysti represented at the award gala in a domestic fashion creation: a glowing red, sculptural silk evening dress. The unique suit was designed by a Finnish fashion designer Anne-Mari Pahkala.
The rich silhouette of the spectacular suit combines the historical style of dress with the fashionable details of the moment. The suit has the watteau pleats known from the Rococo era and, on the other hand, the voluminous volume hems and front pockets according to the fashion of the moment.
– It was clear to me as a designer and to Alma Pöysti from the beginning that the inspiration for the outfit would be the movie Dead Leaves, for which Pöysti is nominated, opens Pahkala.
For example, the red color of the silk suit was chosen from the so-called Kaurismäkelian world.
– The red color of the outfit was a clear choice, because it was born from the recurring red color in the film, Pahkala reveals.

He opens up about the costume design process.
– We have been acquainted with Alma Pöyst years ago and together we have realized several unique outfits that have a story and take a stand. I am responsible for the design work of the suit, but together we discuss uncompromisingly the details, as well as, for example, the atmosphere and how the suit feels on the wearer, says Pahkala.
– As a designer, it is of primary importance to me that the outfit is good and comfortable to be in, perform, celebrate, enjoy and even dance. In this way, the costume plays a very important role in the historical moment, its task is to be like a best, encouraging friend.
– As a fashion designer, the most important thing for me is the experience that the outfit creates for Alma.

Pahkala has worked for a large part of her life in fashion art and as a designer of unique outfits. Still, the request to design an outfit for the Golden Globes seemed incredible.
– The job assignment came to me unexpectedly and unexpectedly, it felt wonderful and dreamlike. This was a dream I had never dreamed of.
Alma Pöysti also commented beforehand on her choice of outfit like this:
– It’s great to be able to wear a unique outfit created by a top Finnish designer at the Golden Globe gala. I also feel that Pahkala’s vision of responsible fashion design is an important part of the whole.
Puku was born in Kruununhaa, Helsinki, as an architect-artisan Ulla Vainikan in hands. The ensemble was completed by the unique version of the spectacular Snow Flower bronze leaf necklace from the domestic jewelry house Kalevala Jewelry. The whole look was styled by a stylist Liisa Kokko.
– As is often the case with red carpets, the schedule was also tight with this outfit: the lifeblood of its implementation was an iron-clad core team. Intense working hours and deep concentration were used to realize the unique look, says the designer.
