Presenter Alma Hätönen had to experience what it feels like to go through grief in public.
Last fall was tough for presenter Alma Hätönen. He competed in the Dancing with the Stars program, which required both physical and mental effort. Hätönen worked as a dance teacher in the program Aleksi Seppänen.
– I haven’t gone back to dancing. Aleksi (Seppänen) and I went to lunch last week, the host who arrived at the Kuutamolla program’s press conference laughs at Iltalehti.

Hätönen’s participation in the TV program was overshadowed by his Eve-his sister’s rapidly progressing cancer.
– Around the time of the first live broadcast, my sister was hospitalized. My own life was in great chaos, I went between the dance hall and the hospital. However, dancing brought a wonderful escape, when you could focus for a moment on how a certain step goes.
Sister Eeva died in October at the age of 39. The presenter says that the mourning work is still in progress.
– All of our lives are equally valuable. However, my sister would like life to go on. Of course, longing is forever, it doesn’t disappear anywhere. Sometimes the longing comes in tidal waves. Sometimes you can put your mind somewhere else.
Hätönen has become familiar to Finns both as a radio and television host. He has worked, among other things, as the presenter of the program “Survivors Suomi Extra”.

Due to the great media attention, Hätönen had to deal with his sister’s illness and death in public as well. He describes the situation as very exceptional.
– You don’t normally have to deal with those things publicly. We agreed with the family what we say in public, because my family is not in the public eye, even though I myself do public work.
– I got a lot of peer support from my followers on Instagram. Many also praised that grief was talked about in a different way: It can involve gratitude for the time spent together, beautiful memories, and treating sadness as a form of love. Grief looks like a delicately crushing and dark trap.

Hätönen says that he has also encountered those who think that the host mourned “wrongly”.
– Everyone grieves in their own way. Everyone does it at their own pace. Grief is not linear.
In the midst of sadness, Hätönen looks towards spring with confidence. Everyday goes well with work and fitness. He will be seen as a guest in the new season of the Kuutamolla series.
– The participation was wonderful. The filming happened just at the time when I was in a difficult situation in my life. It was so good to be able to just joke around and act like nothing was happening in my own life.
