All’s well that ends well: the bizarre Christmas story of the children from Doelstraat

The children from Doelstraat in the center of Haarlem have had a bizarre run-up to Christmas. The Christmas tree that the neighbors had put together in the street was stolen at the beginning of this week. Thanks to a generous donor, a new tree soon appeared. And now the ‘borrowed’ tree is back in its place!

The theft of the one and a half meter high tree that the neighbors had decorated together was discovered on Monday morning. Sophie found that very sad. She made a sign with the text: “Hello, would you like to bring our Christmas tree back to Doelstraat? We understand that you want to borrow it, but we miss it very much!”

Youth news

It news The theft even made it to the youth news. Sophie’s call was meanwhile seen by a passing former gardener, who came to deliver a new Christmas tree. A copy of no less than 3.5 meters high!

A heart-warming gesture, of course. Father Roger Tijm took care of the Christmas lights and in no time the new tree was beautifully decorated.

Thief with regret?

To top it all off, the stolen tree was suddenly found again yesterday near the large planter in Doelstraat. Was the thief sorry? We’ll probably never know. In any case, two Christmas trees now decorate Doelstraat. Sophie immediately made a new plate. It says: “We think it is very sweet that you have returned our tree. We are very happy with it. Merry Christmas, the children from Doelstraat.” Great news on this Christmas Eve!
