When a suspected drug smuggler was arrested on Friday, investigators found eight kilograms of cocaine, according to the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The 32-year-old should therefore be brought before a judge on Saturday to issue an arrest warrant. The Attorney General’s office did not initially name the exact location of the arrest.
The man is accused of having smuggled drugs to Berlin “in no small amount” in the past few months. Investigators found the cocaine on him and an accomplice. The drug should therefore be brought to a bunker before resale. The officials also secured four kilograms of marijuana, around 5,000 euros, pump gun ammunition and various cell phones. 30 confiscated SIM cards are now being evaluated.
The joint drug investigation group (GER) of the Berlin-Brandenburg Customs Investigation Office and the Berlin State Criminal Police Office had been investigating for several months together with the public prosecutor’s office. There were six searches in Berlin and one in Cloppenburg.
The aim of the investigative team is to combat organized international drug smuggling and gang crime in and around Berlin.
