All your devices (including iPhones) will soon have to fit on the same charging cable | NOW

All telephones, tablets and headphones in the European Union are required to have a USB-C connection. The European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Member States reached an agreement on this on Tuesday. The devices can therefore be charged with the same cable in the future.

Now many different chargers are often needed for different devices. Using a standard charger is a lot more convenient for consumers, according to the European Commission. The new rules will apply from the fall of 2024.

The law also states that the sale of chargers will be separated from the sale of devices. In addition, a universal charger could save a lot of waste, because manufacturers now still supply standard chargers with their products.

Apple previously reported that it does not like the EU’s plans, because, according to the tech giant, they lead to stagnant innovation. They would also create mountains of electronic waste, because accessories for Apple devices already on the market could no longer be used.
