Obi-wan Kenobi was hugely successful on Disney+. Therefore, the numerous rumors about season 2 are not surprising. Can we look forward to a sequel?
With the series “Obi-wan Kenobi” the popular Jedi master has returned. And not only him – actor and fan favorite Ewan McGregor was there again! The final episode of the first season was released on June 22, 2022. Can we look forward to a sequel with Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2?
Is Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2 Coming?
Season 1 of Obi-wan Kenobi is available on Disney+ with all six episodes. The series is the third live-action series from the popular “Star Wars” universe after “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”.
Originally, only one season of the project was definitely intended. So far, so communicated. What the creators couldn’t really count on, however, were the reactions to the series with Ewan McGregor. The premiere with the first two episodes immediately set a record on the Disney+ streaming service. The following episodes were able to build on this success. Also, the requests for “Obi-wan Kenobi” Season 2 have been getting louder since the finale. And the signs are not bad at all that Lucasfilm could change its mind soon!
Prominent advocates for a sequel
Unfortunately, there is no official statement yet. However, rumors of a sequel have been circulating since the beginning of June. Negotiations are said to be under way internally. In any case, leading actor Ewan McGregor was extremely positive about it. The Obi-wan actor would very much like to return to his role, as he revealed in the Filmstarts interview, among other things.
I would love it. I don’t know about playing it again, but it was so much fun that I’m pretty dying to do another season… and then another… and then maybe another and another after that… and then another one and then I’ll be about 65 years old. Then I would be about the age of Alec Guinness [als er Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode 4 spielte]. And then I keep going until they have to artificially rejuvenate me every time so I can go on.

McGregor also reiterated his interest in “Obi-wan Kenobi” Season 2 to other media. He said to GQ: “I really hope we do another one [Staffel]. If I could do something like that again and again – I would just be very happy about it.”
And he’s not the only actor who would like to be involved in a sequel. Hayden Christensen aka Darth Vader also wants a second season. Christensen will return to the universe one way or another though; his role in “Ahsoka” has already been confirmed.

What do the makers say about a second season?
The makers of the series, above all director Deborah Chow, have reacted cautiously so far, but not negatively:
Of course there are more stories that could be told. Obviously there’s another 10 years to go from A New Hope and with a character like Obi-Wan Kenobi I think it’s even interesting at times to just watch him drive across the sand. So who knows? It’s difficult to predict at the moment, but it certainly wasn’t the intention.

Hidden clues to Obi-wan Kenobi season 2
While nothing is official as mentioned, Obi-wan Kenobi Season 1 would definitely make for a sequel. Especially in the final episode, some questions remained unanswered. Disney+ could answer this in other “Star Wars” series – or simply give fans a second season of “Obi-wan Kenobi”.
Attention, there are a few to follow from here spoiler to season 1!
The scene between Darth Vader and the Emperor revives the tension between him and his old teacher. The conflict would definitely provide plenty of material for further seasons. It’s the same with the rebellious cell “The Path” that was able to escape thanks to Obi-wan. Also, what’s next for Reva, the former Inquisitor?
Another (possible) storyline arises from the role of Rupert Friend as Grand Inquisitor. Due to the events of Episode 2 of the series, he’s barely seen – his relationship with Darth Vader would provide plenty of fodder for Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2. Likewise, of course, between Obi-wan and Luke, whom the Jedi finally meets at the end of the season.
At the end of the season Obi-wan delivers young Leia back to Alderaan. The fact that she now wants to accept her duties arouses curiosity about her further development. And Obi-wan’s promise to Bail Organa, Leia’s foster father, literally calls for a sequel. Because, as die-hard “Star Wars” fans know, he still plays an important role in the rebellion.
But the most explicit reference to Obi-wan Kenobi Season 2 comes from Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson), who is finally reappearing as a Force Ghost. For Obi-wan’s late master tells him that he still has a long way to go. We really hope so! Either in another series in the franchise or in its own sequel.
