All information about the free streaming service

Amazon already operates a very successful streaming service with Prime Video. With Amazon Freevee, another new offer will soon be coming to Germany – and it’s even completely free.

Amazon’s new streaming service is not completely new. The offer is already available in the USA and Great Britain under the name IMDb TV, but will also be coming to Germany this year with a new name. Amazon Freevee, as the streaming service will be called in this country, should start in the coming months and be completely free. It is financed by advertising.

Amazon Freevee is free but shows ads

As announced by Amazon, the renaming of IMDb TV to Amazon Freevee will take place on April 27th. The previous offer has been available in the USA since 2019, and it also started in Great Britain in September 2021. According to its own statement, Amazon has registered enormous growth in advertising-financed video streaming services (AVOD) in the past two years. “We look forward to continuing this momentum with a growing offering of original and diverse originals, and establishing Amazon Freevee as the leading AVOD service with content audiences crave.”

With its advertising-financed concept, Amazon Freevee could compete with services such as RTL+ or Joyn in Germany. They also allow free access, but display advertising in return. Ashraf Alkarmi, head of Amazon Freevee, speaks of “limited advertising”, which gives hope that it will be displayed in moderation. At the same time, Amazon Freevee is also announcing some specially produced series that are intended to make the streaming service more attractive.

Since the service already exists, it already has its roster of series and movies. In 2022, however, they want to expand the range of originals by 70 percent, according to the streaming provider. For example, a spin-off of “Bosch: Legacy”, the longest-running Amazon original series to date, has already been announced. The offshoot is scheduled to premiere on May 6th in the US and UK. Also new are the home design series Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis, the comedy series Leap and High School, a series based on the best-selling memoirs by Grammy-nominated and platinum-selling artists Tegan and Sara Quin based.

Amazon Freevee is also announcing some exclusive titles in the film segment. This includes the romantic comedy Love Accidentally, in which Alexa (Brenda Song) and Jason (Aaron O’Connell) compete for a promotion at their advertising company. By chance, they start an anonymous relationship via text message, not knowing who the other really is.

In the area of documentation, Amazon Freevee also lists exciting titles. These include sports documentary UNINTERRUPTED’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers, spy series Alex Rider, music documentary Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary, and also the wacky True- Crime documentary “Bug Out”. With “Judy Justice” there is also a court show with television icon Judy Sheindlin. The streaming provider has already ordered a first season with 120 episodes for them.
