Defined as a “heartthrob”, the moustached soldier is the protagonist of a short video which in a few days attracted millions of like.

King Charles’s guard who goes crazy on social media appears at the gates of the Royal residence in Londonmarching up and down and greeting with a very kind, and just whispered, Goodmorning, whenever he approaches the waiting tourists. AND he lets out a shy smile, even though he really shouldn’t (he risks a very heavy fine).

There are hundreds of thousands of comments on the video and other similar clips. One of them has collected over six million views, with various declarations of love from tourists who say they are ready to marry the guard in question. «Did I fall in love with a King Charles guard?” one fan asks. «This feels like the beginning of a romance novel» comment another. And another plea: «Someone tell me his name?».

Established in 1660, King Charles’ Guards are part of the Household Division, which brings together several regiments of the British Army. They are distinguished by their very heavy bearskin hat (although they may wear other types depending on which regiment they come from), accompanied by a red uniform with dark trousers. Their job is to guard the London Royal residences of Buckingham Palace and St James’s Palace.

They must never get upset (but they can get angry)

Stationed at Buckingham Palace in groups of two or four (when the King is in the palace), the King’s Guards they cannot show any emotion and must refrain from interacting with the audience. The daily ritual of Changing of the guardwhich sees them parading in front of the gates, is one of the most followed ceremonies by the millions of tourists who visit the royal residence every year.
