Tommy (1975)

Tina Turner stars in this 1975 surrealistic musical alongside Oliver Reed, Eric Clapton, Elton John and Jack Nicholson, among others. The film is based on The Who’s 1969 rock opera of the same name and stars Roger Daltrey, co-founder and lead singer of the band. Tina Turner embodies the role of the “Acid Queen”, a questionable faith healer who wants to free Tommy from his psychosomatic blindness and deafness with the help of LSD. What follows is an ecstatic drug rush through the bewildering world of a traumatized boy. Acid Queen was Tina Turner’s first film role.

“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1978)

Three years after the success of “Tommy”, Tina Turner appeared in another music film. In “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is about a band from a small town who must prevail in the fight against the corrupt music industry. Peter Frampton stars in this homage to The Beatles, who also provided the score. The eponymous “Lonely Hearts Club Band” is realized by the Bee Gees brothers. Tina Turner gave the film her singing and her incomparable stage presence with her supporting role. Other cameos also received Alice Cooper as “Father Sun” and Aerosmith.

“Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome” (1985)

Tina Turner landed her first major film role in the ’80s classic Mad Max. She plays Mel Gibson’s antagonist “Aunty Entity” in this dystopian adventure film. Mad Max is the third installment in George Miller’s Australian film series. Tina Turner embodies the role of the “Aunty Entity”, the ruler of Bartertown, a post-apocalyptic city in Australia. With her character, Turner once again mimics a villain, as in the musical “Tommy” that appeared ten years earlier. She also contributed the theme song to the film, We Don’t Need Another Hero.

Last Action Hero (1993)

Tina Turner made a cameo appearance in the action comedy Last Action Hero.
