Dutch clothing retailer Scotch & Soda will reportedly close its four UK stores this summer after being rescued by US management company Bluestar Alliance in March.
Three shops will close in the coming weeks – in London’s Old Spitalfields Market, Covent Garden and Carnaby Street, reports Drapers, citing unnamed sources. The stores in Old Spitalfields Market and Covent Garden only opened their doors last October. Another store in Westfield London shopping center was closed earlier this month.
Bluestar rescued Scotch & Soda after the company filed for bankruptcy in the Netherlands earlier this year. The Amsterdam-based retailer explained at the time that the pandemic and high inflation forced it to file for bankruptcy, despite posting record sales of €342.5 million in FY21/22.
In May, Bluestar announced the acquisition of Scotch & Soda’s US wholesale and retail operations by a separate subsidiary. In the same announcement, Bluestar named Anthony Lucia as global president of Scotch & Soda USA and global operations.
