All Band Members Reunite for “Stop Making Sense” Premiere (Video)

All four members of Talking Heads came together for a special evening. It wasn’t for a concert, but for the revival of “Stop Making Sense”. David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison answered questions at a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Spike Lee in conversation with all Talking Heads members

It has been almost 40 years since the concert film “Stop Making Sense” enchanted Talking Heads fans on cinema screens. So it’s high time to show the film again with revised sound and in 4K resolution. The premiere of the newly released documentary celebrated its premiere in Toronto, Canada, where the TIFF is currently bringing together everyone who has a reputation in the film world.

Director Spike Lee (“BlacKkKlansman”) was also there, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to interview the four original members of the Talking Heads. The conversation was broadcast live to various IMAX theaters across Canada so fans could also ask their questions. There were some details about what motivated the band to re-release “Stop Making Sense”.

“It’s a wonderful thing that new technology has come along, which meant we almost had to adapt and take ‘Stop Making Sense’ to a level that people are used to in today’s cinemas,” he said Taking Heads guitarist Jerry Harrison announces. At that time, completely new digital audio cassettes were used for recordings. It was therefore logical to use the latest technology in the new edition.

This made it possible to isolate and optimize the four members’ individual performances. But not only that. The guest musicians who were on stage especially for the iconic concert in 1984 also received an update. “They took us into a completely different dimension,” enthused drummer Chris Frantz about the expanded live band. “I am very grateful to be here tonight and [den Film] to see and enjoy.”

The band did not want to comment on whether there might be a concert reunion of Talking Heads after the re-performance of “Stop Making Sense”.

It is not yet known whether “Stop Making Sense” will be shown in German cinemas again.
