All anti-Zwarte Piet protesters free again

All anti-Zwarte Piet protesters who were arrested after the sit-in during the council meeting in Emmen have been released again.

The last four were released this afternoon, according to the Dagblad van het Noorden. The regional newspaper reports that the total of twelve demonstrators must report to the court in Assen in February. They are suspected of local trespassing. The last four remained in custody because they did not want to reveal their identities. That did not work.

Twelve activists of Extinction Rebellion disrupted the council meeting in Emmen, because they want the appearance of the Pieten at the Sinterklaas entry in Emmen to be adjusted. The climate activists announced that they show solidarity with the anti-racism movement and the actions of Kick Out Zwarte Piet.

Earlier today there were eight counter-protesters at the town hall in Emmen. They are in favor of Zwarte Piet.
