About 150 asylum seekers from the overcrowded asylum seekers center in Ter Apel are temporarily housed in the Sportpaleis Alkmaar. According to the North Holland North Safety Region, the first fifty asylum seekers will arrive today. On Thursday and Friday another fifty people will come. The Sportpaleis is currently the central registration point for refugees from Ukraine.
Ukrainian refugees are registered in the Sportpaleis and linked to a definitive reception location within 24 hours by the North Holland North Security Region. The refugees from the asylum seekers’ center in Ter Apel will stay for a maximum of one week.
The Sports Palace is expected to be less needed for refugees from Ukraine in the coming period, the municipality said. In view of the emergency situation in the overcrowded asylum seekers center in Ter Apel in Groningen, the Board is prepared to cooperate.
The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) determines where the asylum seekers will go after the week in the Sportpaleis.
