Alkmaar addiction clinic clients complete their treatment in Hoofddorp after fire

The clients of Brijder addiction care in Alkmaar, who were housed in Hoofddorp after a fire last week, have unanimously chosen to complete their treatment there. Erny Grootveld, spokesperson for the umbrella organization Parnassia Groep, tells NH Nieuws. The clinic in Alkmaar is running as usual again.

When a fire broke out on the first floor of the Alkmaar clinic in the night from Sunday to Monday last week, the clients who stayed there were transferred to Hoofddorp† Bleider has another branch there.

Last week, they were presented with the choice of returning to Alkmaar or continuing their treatment in Hoofddorp, says Grootveld. “They have unanimously decided for the latter option.” According to her, this is not because the clients would be afraid to return because of the fire: “They have found their niche there.”

No clear cause

No one was injured in the fire, which mainly caused a lot of smoke and water damage. However, two clients were examined as a precaution; one of them in the hospital. “Fortunately, everyone is doing well,” Ellen Huizenga, director of Parnassia Group, told NH Nieuws the day after.

At that time, clients who came by appointment could be received immediately, only for people who also sleep in the clinic for treatment, there was no place for a few days due to police investigation and renovation work.

It is unclear how the fire started. Forensic investigations have not been able to determine whether there was arson or whether there was any other cause. The investigation has been completed.
