Alfa Romeo will leave the F1 series after the 2023 season. The Italian brand announced its decision on Friday during the Belgian GP weekend, Autosport reported.

The Italian brand announced at the beginning of August that it had signed an extension contract with Sauber, which runs the F1 team. The Swiss team has been known as Alfa Romeo since the 2019 season.

The CEO of Alfa Romeo already announced in the summer that the car brand is ready to break away from the F1 team if the moment is right. The comment spoiled the decision for Audi to join the F1 series.

After the long-awaited confirmation of the German brand joining the F1 series for the 2026 season, Alfa Romeo had the opportunity to give up cooperation with Sauber. Audi is expected to join hands with Sauber as early as the 2024 season.

Valtteri Bottas has a contract with Sauber for next season as well. He will continue with the Swiss team despite its future name.
