Record national player Lothar Matthäus draws the first comparisons with national player Jamal Musiala’s style of play to multiple world footballer Lionel Messi.
“He reminds me a bit of Messi,” said the 61-year-old Matthäus in Munich at an advertising event (Interwetten).
The 19-year-old Musisla impressed with top performances at Bayern Munich at the start of the season. The youngster’s style of play is similar to that of Argentinian Messi (35), who was the most outstanding player on the globe alongside Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at FC Barcelona.
Musiala has the “potential to be a world footballer,” said Matthäus, who was the only German to win this election in 1991.
“He can succeed Robert Lewandowski, not now, not the day after tomorrow,” said Matthäus to a future world footballer Musiala.
“He’s playing for the right club,” added Matthäus, referring to Bayern. What is good about Musiala is that he focuses absolutely on football, is ambitious and “grounded” as a person.
