Final Fantasy XIV Online is set to launch on the Switch 2 on August 4, 2026. With a staggering size of 117 GB, according to the Nintendo eShop, this MMORPG developed by Square Enix is now the game with the largest storage requirement for Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.
In comparison, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already requires 102.5 GB of storage on the Switch 2. However, Final Fantasy XIV Online surpasses it, taking up 117 GB of space. For context, the Switch 2 version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild only requires 24.1 GB.
Switch 2 Edition of Final Fantasy XIV Online Needs a Lot of Storage
Installing Final Fantasy XIV Online on the internal memory of the Nintendo Switch 2 will consume almost half of the console’s 256 GB storage capacity. Fortunately, users can opt for a microSD card to expand their storage. While the original Switch could use standard microSD cards, the Switch 2 supports only microSD Express cards, typically identified by the “EX” label on the front face of the card.
Notably, it seems irrelevant which edition of Final Fantasy XIV Online is utilized, as both the Starter Edition and the Complete Edition, along with the Complete Collector’s Editions, are listed in the Nintendo eShop with a storage requirement of 117 GB. Those undeterred by the sizeable storage need can pre-order Final Fantasy or add it to their wishlist. The release of the Switch 2 edition, as mentioned, is scheduled for August 4, 2026.
Overview of Final Fantasy Editions
Final Fantasy XIV Online for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be offered in various editions. The Starter Edition includes the base game “A Realm Reborn” along with the first three expansions (Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers). In contrast, the Complete Edition and the Complete Collector’s Edition encompass all expansions, including the most recent DLC, Dawntrail. Furthermore, the Complete Collector’s Edition also provides the digital bonus items from all previous Collector’s Editions.

The standard subscription is priced at €12.99/month for one month, €11.99/month for a 90-day plan, and €10.99/month for a 180-day plan, allowing for 8 characters per world and 40 characters per data center.
