Alexander Zverev gives himself the right gift for his birthday. The tennis star gets new confidence at the home tournament.

With the clear final victory against Ben Shelton at the ATP tournament in Munich, Alexander Zverev has for the time being overcome his shape weakness of the past few weeks. The Hamburger, who started the tournament as the top player, prevailed 6-2, 6: 4 against the 22-year-old American and thus celebrated his first title since October.

“I don’t think we have to talk about the last few weeks. I am incredibly happy about the title and the level I played,” said the German tennis star at Sky after his triumph.

Before the eyes of Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder and world champion Thomas Müller, Zverev dominated the final from the start. The world ranking in third did not have to go to its performance limit, because his opponent made it easier for him to make the task through a high error rate.

After only 71 minutes, Zverev converted his first match ball – and secured the title on the facility of the MTTC iPhitos for the third time after 2017 and 2018. In the list of winners of the tournament, he is now at the top with Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The triumph in Munich comes at an important time for Zverev. After the lost final of the Australian Open against Jannik Sinner, he had had to cut the sails at six following tournaments at the latest in the quarter -finals.

In Munich, however, he achieved a hard -fought three -rate success against Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals. After that, Zverev said: “I have lost many such matches in the past few months, I hope that was a bit the match where my season and shape change.”

The success not only gave him 500 world ranking points, but also a prize money of 467,485 euros. He also received an electric vehicle from the main sponsor BMW worth around 146,000 euros as the winning bonus – and traditionally leather pants. “I will now enjoy the birthday and that I won a tournament,” said the Hamburger.
