Alexander Zverev better than ever – now second in the world rankings

Despite his serious ligament injury, Alexander Zverev Novak Djokovic overtaken in the world rankings – and thus writes personal history. Another German climbs up.

The injured Alexander Zverev is second in the world rankings and has climbed higher than ever in his career. The Olympic champion from Hamburg is only behind Daniil Medvedev (Russia), who took over the lead from Novak Djokovic. The Serb fell back from the top to third place after his quarter-finals at the French Open.

Djokovic will continue to fall behind

The only German to be number one in the world tennis rankings was Boris Becker, who was at the top for a total of twelve weeks in 1991. Michael Stich and Tommy Haas also made it to second place.

After his ligament tear in the semifinals in Paris, Zverev has no chance of collecting any more points in the coming weeks. With no points awarded at Wimbledon, starting June 27, defending champion Djokovic will fall even further behind.

Newcomer of the week is Andy Murray. The two-time Olympic champion from Great Britain, who plays with an artificial hip, returned to the top 50 (47th) after reaching the final in Stuttgart. Semi-finalist Oscar Otte is now the second-best German in 51st place, higher than ever in his career.
