The Arena of Stockholm Globe, now called Avicii, was almost sold out on Saturday as Swedish superstars gathered and performed for Ukraine.

Among other things, Hela Sverige skramlar took the stage Per Gessle, Eva DahlgrenThe Hives, Veronica Maggio and Benjanmin Ingrosso.

Surprisingly, a Finnish representation was also seen on stage when the former prime minister Alexander Stubb held a speech. Stubb joked at the beginning of his speech that a Swedish-Finnish writer was really wanted on stage. Mark Levengood or a comedian André Wickströmwho both speak “Moomin Swedish” like Stubb, but they were busy, so there was contentment with Stubb.

One of the performers was Per Gessle, whose former band Gyllene Tider Stubb said he listened to in his youth.

In a speech that lasted about 10 minutes, Stubb highlighted the common history of Finland and Sweden, among other things, and how now is the time to help Ukraine.

Stubb said touchingly about his father Göran Stubbista.

– Without my father, I wouldn’t be standing here. My 87-year-old father Göran Stubb was born in Käkisalmi, Karelia, which now belongs to Russia. My father and his sister came to Sweden as war children. My father was hospitalized for half a year. He will never, ever, forget the love that Sweden gave him, Stubb said in his speech.

– You said during the Winter War that “Finland is our business”. You sent soldiers to Finland and received Finnish children and women. You have to understand that we in Finland will never forget that, Stubb said, and huge applause.

Stubb appealed to both TV viewers and the audience present to help Ukraine. He told how the Finns raised six million euros in a similar concert, but the Swedes should be able to do better, because there are more Swedes.

In the end, the concert raised about 7.6 million euros.

Stubb said that even now, when it comes to reading war news, it seems hopeless, freedom, democracy and justice will always win in the end.
