‘Alexander Klöpping, clapping about Matthijs from school is not chic!’

It is not chic that Alexander Klöpping is so outspoken about his private meeting with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, says radio star Tim Klijn. “And all that in a podcast!”

Alexander Klöpping has visited his troubled former DWDD host Matthijs van Nieuwkerk at home. He revealed in a podcast how exactly that meeting went. “When I look at him now, I just see someone who has calmed down a lot. (…) And someone who really wants to learn. (…) That is exactly what you should hope for from such a man.”

At Matthew’s house

Not really discreet about all this out in the open to throw, says radio star Tim Klijn. Edwin Evers’ successor brings it up in the morning show of Radio 538. “He had been to his house, didn’t he, that Alexander Klöpping?”

Newsreader Florentien van der Meulen: “Yes, he did an interview with him and according to Rob Goossens…”

Tim: “No, he didn’t do an interview with him…”

Florentien: “Well, he did talk to him, didn’t he?”

Tim: “He just went to his house.”

Not really chic

Sidekick Niels van Baarlen: “To make a cup of coffee.”

Tim: “I thought: I didn’t think it was very ehh… chic, what he did.”

Fellow sidekick Rick Romijn: “Chic, no, no.”

Niels: “Unless it is in consultation. It can also be a kind of prelude to, right?”

Tim: “That could also be.”

Niels: “Like: Klöpping is going to make a cup of coffee.”

Rick: “But Klöpping shouldn’t bring that up at all. He should leave it to Matthijs himself!”

Throw a ball

Niels points out that Alexander’s podcast outpouring has also reached RTL Boulevard. “I think they said: you are going to throw a ball at Boulevard. That’s how it works. Of course, a bomb is placed under that Op1, which is blown up now and as of the new TV season, Op1 will not return. And that’s where Matthijs sits in the late evening.”

Tim: “Well, there are still some doubts about that, I heard. That Nadia doesn’t seem to be going so well either.”

Niels: “Op1 is coming off and Van Nieuwkerk will be there. Yes, one hundred percent.”

‘This is a strategy’

Tim keeps throwing it at indiscretion. “Die Klöpping has been to his house, has been chatting with him and then he actually explains in a podcast what has been said.”

Niels: “No, that is a strategy to have Matthijs return. Of course that has to come from somewhere. We will soon get that with Tom Egbers. Of course it is said: ‘Hey, we’re going to massage it in. This is now news, because every fart makes the newspaper.’”

The investigation into misconduct at the NPO is expected in the last quarter of this year. Only after that does Matthijs seem to be able to get back to work at public broadcasting.
