Alexander Doom wins 400 meters and dives under the European Championship limit

45.70 is required for the European Championship. A possible obstacle for Doom is that with Kevin Borlée, Jonathan Sacoor and Julien Watrin last year – when the selection period had already started – three Belgians were faster and only three athletes per country are allowed to go to the European Championship. However, Watrin has also been placed on the 400m hurdles and is more than likely to miss the flat 400m, leaving Doom in the European Championship squad.

44.90 is required for the World Cup in Eugene in July, but Doom can also qualify via the World Rankings. There he is currently 47th (and second Belgian after Watrin), while the top 48 can go to Eugene. Doom’s personal best is 45.34 since last year. Jonathan Sacoor was not involved on Saturday, just like in previous weeks. He got stuck at 47.54. His personal best is 45.03.
