The Spanish Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia RS-GP), leader of the world championship and who could not pass to the second classification and will start thirteenth, was critical of pilots who “look for a wheel” by acknowledging that the fall was his fault.
“I have to be calmer, we know what can happen -they take a wheel-, so it’s my mistake, because I’ve lost concentration and that can’t happen to me”he pointed.
“It’s crazy. Alex Marquez he has zero respect, he has stopped in the spare room to wait for methe same as with the first and second tires, and it’s amazing that this happensbut in the end it’s my mistake, I need to be more focused and do my job”, Espargaró continued.
“It’s embarrassing, but in the end what Race Direction told us in the last Safety Commission, and for me it’s ridiculous, is that if the driver behind you doesn’t come on a fast lap and isn’t on the track, can wait but obviously it’s not nice to see that on television”explained Aleix Espargaró.
At the same time, he stressed that “in the ‘rookies’ I can understand why they do it, but other riders who have factory bikes and more experience should be an example.”
“The truth is that there are some who I don’t know how they can have so little shame and so little self-esteem. I understand that Remy Gardner, Darryn Binder are looking for a wheel; don’t fuck with me, we’ve all done it, they’re debutantesit’s their first year and they have to try, but there are riders who have been riding official bikes for three or four years, who are standing still all the time and I’ve made a mistake, I’ve lost my nerve and I shouldn’t have done it, but they should have a little more self-respect,” Espargaró lamented.
The world championship leader believes he has done a great job this weekend “to try to be competitive.”
“I think I’m a candidate for the podium, because the pace is very strong and I’m quite happy with that, but During the weekend I have not been able to square a good lap with a new tire and when I came very fast in the first sector I fell,” he stressed.
“The race is going to be very physically demanding and the tire is working incredibly for me. In the fourth free practice session with a very worn tire I managed to do the same time as in qualifying, so I think I can be very strong in the second part of the race since physically I think I can have some advantage at the end, because I feel very, very good and although starting thirteenth is going to be very difficult, I will try”, Aleix Espargaró said convinced.
