The NHL farm series AHL’s decisive final match saw outbursts of emotion that AHL’s discipline had to address.
The winning trophy The Calder Cup was taken this year by the Chicago Wolves with 4-1 Springfield Thunderbirds. In the decisive match, the goalkeeper of Wolves Alex Lyon reset Springfield 4-0.
The Springfield crowd had apparently charred the 29-year-old goalkeeper during the game. After the final buzzer rang, Lyon wanted to show his guest his own badges of victory.
As Chicago’s players rushed to hug the goalkeeper, Lyon’s hand rose from the crowd middle finger standing up towards the audience.
The goalkeeper iva didn’t end there, as just before handing out the championship trophy, Lyon looked at the audience and repeated his previous trick. This time with both hands in the middle of the trough.
Both cases were recorded on social media for video.
The AHL sent Lyon a two-match ban on unsportsmanlike conduct.
Terribly often, players have not been banned from playing at championships.
Lyon is part of the Carolina Hurricanes organization. His contract expires this season, meaning the ban will take effect on next season’s games if he plays in the AHL.
One of the Finns in the AHL championship team was a defender Tarmo Reunanen and goalkeeper Eetu Mäkiniemi. Neither of them played a playoff game.
