Italian international Alessandro Florenzi is the next footballer suspected of illegal sports betting. The Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office has started an investigation into the AC Milan player, reports the Italian news agency AGI. The 32-year-old Florenzi, currently out due to an injury, is expected to be interrogated soon.
Florenzi is the fourth Italian professional footballer to be discredited by betting on matches. In October it came to light that Nicolò Fagioli of Juventus, Nicolò Zaniolo of Aston Villa and Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United were guilty of gambling via illegal websites.
Fagioli and Tonali have already been suspended for months and must undergo therapy to overcome their gambling addiction.
