Aleksanteri Kivimäki serious – Iltalehti follows the Vastaamo trial

Aleksanteri Kivimäki is accused of more than 30,000 crimes. IL follows the court session.

The main hearing of the Vastaamo complex begins today in the district court of Länsi-Uusimaa in Espoo.

Aleksanteri Kivimäki (formerly Julius Kivimäki), 26, is accused of more than 30,000 crimes, the titles of which are aggravated data breach, aggravated blackmail, attempted aggravated blackmail and aggravated dissemination of information that violates private life. The prosecutor demands a 7-year prison sentence for him.

Kivimäki has denied the charges. He denies that he was the author of the data breach.

Iltalehti follows the start of the main hearing in the attached text tracking. The session starts at 9 o’clock.

Based on the preliminary investigation material collected by the Central Criminal Police (KRP), Kivimäki was linked to the crime with the help of a so-called “digital fingerprint”.

According to the prosecutor, Kivimäki had blackmailed the patients of Vastaamo Psychotherapy Center by threatening to publish their confidential patient information if they did not pay him compensation. The information was later leaked to the Tor network.

Kivimäki, who lived a mobile life, was arrested in France in February 2023.

Kivimäki has previously been convicted of data breaches that received international attention, which he committed as a minor in the mid-2010s.

Iltalehti has reported on his crimes earlier in 2020, when Kivimäki was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence in the district court of Länsi-Uusimaa for, among other things, an aggravated data breach committed as a minor.

Victims are not expected to attend the district court session. There are more than 21,000 interested parties, of which about 500 have announced in advance that they want to participate in the trial.

Victims of the data breach have been assigned another location where they can watch the session remotely. The reason for the exceptional arrangement is the large number of interested parties and the protection of their identities.
