A long-time Swedish NHL player Patric Hörnqvist36, is ending his career.
Hörnqvist won the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017 in Pittsburgh. In the latter championship, he scored the decisive winning goal in the final match Pekka Rinne behind the back.
In his career, Hörnqvist also won the World Cup gold in Sweden’s shirt in 2018 at the Danish Games.
Hörnqvist played the last three seasons of his career in Florida, where he worked Alexander Barkov as vice-captain. Hörnqvist did not play in the playoffs last season.
The winger suffered two concussions last season and was only able to play 22 games. The last match entered the statistics at the beginning of December, after which Hörnqvist was sidelined for the rest of the season.
– Because of my injury history, I don’t want to risk the coming years, Hörnqvist said for Aftonbladet.
In addition to Pittsburgh and Florida, Hörnqvist represented Nashville in the early years of his NHL career, which selected him as the last player in the 2005 draft.
In total, Hörnqvist played 901 games in the regular season in the NHL, where he scored 543 points.
