In the Argentina of the crack, the possibility that two brothers think differently and are not on a war footing seems like science fiction. At least that is the reflection that emerges from the repercussions in networks of the last public appearances of the Darin. Alexandra was in charge of reading the official document of the Government, on Friday 2, in May Plaza to repudiate the attack against Cristina Fernandez. Three days later, Ricardo during a press conference after being applauded at the Venice Festival expressed his opinion about what happened: “Hate, probably, is the only feeling that does not prescribe,” he assured.
The trajectory of each one and the different political positions they have adopted in recent decades show that there is not necessarily an absolute coincidence between them. Alexandra, as president of the Association of Argentine Actors, she is an active militant of Kirchnerism. Her closeness is such that she was chosen to be the voice and the face in one of the most difficult days for the Argentine politics. Richardon the other hand, always avoided expressing his partisan preferences, but he was one of the actors who with more harshly questioned the Kirchner family for the origin of his fortune.
Statements. The speech that Alejandra read was the only thing that was heard in May Plaza. No official spoke, nor did the President Albert Fernandez nor her own Vice President. “Social peace is a collective responsibility”, began the actress. “We do not want intolerance and political violence to destroy the democratic consensus built since 1983,” he assured and advanced what would be, as days went by, the position of the front of all: “For several years, a tiny sector of the leadership and its supportive media have repeated hate speeches and stigmatization and criminalization of any popular leader or those related to Peronism and any sympathizer,” he stressed. The actress recalled the opposition demonstrations in which she harangued against Kirchnerism with body bags, coffins and guillotines. “The legitimization of extreme speeches is not gratuitous,” he added.
From that act, the ruling party began to insist on the concept of “hate speech” and a public debate was generated about the origin of these speeches and who promotes them. The discussion, like all others, fell into the terrain of the crack: for some, there is a sector of politics that became radicalized and turned aggression into a flag; others, on the other hand, insist on a kind of “theory of the two demons” of hate and maintain that verbal violence is the common strategy of the ruling class.
Darin got into that discussion from the Venice Festival, where he had traveled to present “Argentina, 1985”a film that reconstructs the Trial of the Military Juntas. While his sister closed ranks in the first position with regard to hate speech, Darín was in the second position and asked everyone to review their own attitudes.
“Each one does what they can with rage, rage and rage. It is very important to review what is our own violence, the internal one, what is happening to us inside. Sometimes, without realizing it, we can contribute to this widespread violence. I believe that if one has a humanistic sensibility, the first duty is to try to put oneself in the place of the other, even when we receive an attack. Because the snowball that produces aggression and violence is very easy to generate and very difficult to stop. Let’s not forget that hate is probably the only feeling that does not prescribe, “he said at a press conference.
Crack food. That this time the Darín do not express exactly the same position cannot surprise anyone. However, in the networks -where a very defined sector has significant firepower- there were those who took advantage of these differences to continue feeding the crack.
It is enough to put the name of one of the two in the Twitter search engine to see that, at least part of those who applauded Ricardo, did so with messages loaded with aggression towards Alejandra. “Same origin, same profession, different stories. She represents the actors’ guild, he triumphed in the world. They can’t guess which one is Kirchnerist”; “Ricardo Darin applauded 9 minutes at the Venice Festival. Alejandra Darin reading the statement from the führer CFK for the lackeys… Good and evil in the same family”; “The difference between these two brothers is remarkable. One is a pseudo parasitic and resentful Kirchnerist actress and her brother is a great guy with a low profile, who never throws hate and an internationally recognized actor”; “Alejandra Darín ended her pathetic career earning on K stages as a reader of hate speech. Ricardo Darín is admired and they camp at the entrance of the Venice Festival so that he can sign autographs. Two realities”… and the list goes on.
Ten years. Everytime that Ricardo talks about current affairs, his statements are reproduced ad nauseam by all means. Perhaps that’s where his prudence comes from. Although he always avoided expressing strong party positions in public, there was a time when he was one of the most critical actors of Kirchnerism. At the beginning of 2013, in an interview, the question was asked: “Somebody explain to me the wealth growth of the Kirchners.” The criticism escalated to the point that Cristina Fernández herself responded with a public letter. “Ricardo, let me call you by your first name.” I don’t want to imagine how you would feel if someone carried written signs down the street insulting you, wishing for your death or celebrating that of his lifelong partner as it happens to me in some opposition demonstrations. Have you never seen any?” Regarding his fortune, he maintained that his affidavits were public and that Justice had already investigated his family.
In those same weeks the first notes on Alejandra’s political position began to appear. “The sympathy K of the sister of Ricardo Darín”, was a title of January 7 of that year. The note talked about the presence of the Association of Actors in official events.
In addition, the article quoted an interview with Luis Brandoni: “The Argentine Association of Actors has been taken over by Kirchnerism. It does not represent me,” the actor had said. The phrase is practically the same as the one he has just repeated now, after the act in Plaza de Mayo: “He converted the Argentine Association of Actors in the Kirchnerist Association of Actors”, he insisted.
Ten years later, the Argentine discussions have not advanced much and, on the contrary, the crack seems to be getting deeper.
However, and despite the fact that the Darín brothers are the perfect faces for those who want to fuel differences, none of them have ever lent themselves to the game of political differences. On the contrary, every time they speak in public about each other, they do so with words of love. The last time was in May. Alejandra was as a guest on “Vivo para vos”, in El Nueve, and the drivers surprised her with a message that Ricardo had recorded for her: “She is my sister, my little sister, we grew up and protected ourselves together. What I can tell you is that I love her very much and that I wish her the best because she is a great person. She is a very strong woman, beyond what she believes,” she said.
