The year has started anything but quiet for the lawyers of Alec Baldwin (63). The Hollywood star currently has three lawsuits to deal with. Two are directly linked to the fatal shooting accident on the set of his western.

On October 21, Alec Baldwin’s gun fired while filming Rust at a movie ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Director Joel Souza (48) was hit in the shoulder, camerawoman Halyna Hutchins († 42) died as a result of her injury. The public prosecutor’s office has not yet filed a complaint, and the investigation is ongoing.
But two crew members went to court against the star. Alec Baldwin now wants to get rid of one of the civil lawsuits.
Screenwriter Mamie Mitchell, who was the first to call 911 after the fatal shooting, claims the shot, fired just a meter from her, caused both physical and psychological injuries.
She is suing Baldwin and the production company for assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and intentional infliction of physical harm.
Baldwin’s legal team focuses on one repeated description: “intentional.”
Her counter in the court document seen by BILD: “Nothing in the plaintiff’s allegations indicates that any of the defendants, including Mr. Baldwin, intended to load the prop pistol with live ammunition.”
Baldwin admitted in his testimony that he did not adequately inspect the gun, but said he did not know it was armed.

Baldwin and his co-defendants make it clear in the document: If they have their way, there will be no damages.
“What the defendants are contesting is the plaintiff’s assertion that she has a legal right to money,” the letter reads. “The law is clear she doesn’t have that.”
