Alec Baldwin maintains that he is not liable for the shooting incident on the film set of Peace† In October, the 63-year-old actor accidentally shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins dead. His lawyer filed documents in court today stating that Baldwin should not be held financially responsible because he and Hutchins were convinced the weapon was unloaded, it said. The New York Times†
Baldwin fired on the set of Peace a weapon intended as a prop. The gun was not supposed to be loaded and the actor was not aware of this. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. This is how the involvement of a weapons expert Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and other crew members. Some crew members claim that too much has been cut in safety measures.
In the document, Baldwin’s lawyer explains how Hutchins helped him use the weapon. “She told Baldwin to hold the gun a little higher so it was almost pointed at her,” the statement said. “She looked at the monitor, at Baldwin, back at the monitor again. While discussing Baldwin’s attitude, Hutchins and Baldwin were both convinced the gun was unloaded.’
Baldwin would then have asked Hutchins if he should pull the trigger so that Hutchins could see what that looked like on screen. She agreed. “Baldwin then pulled the trigger, but just not far enough for the gun to go off,” the statement said. “When he released the trigger, the gun went off.”
