In addition to its classic prepaid tariffs, Aldi also offers annual tariffs via its mobile phone brand Aldi Talk. A total of three offers are available. TECHBOOK reveals exactly what they include and for whom the annual tariffs are worthwhile in the tariff check.
Aldi Talk’s annual tariffs are not permanent. The cell phone discounter is offering them during the campaign period from June 9th to July 10th, 2022. Even before that, the three tariffs were marketed from time to time. All three packages can be booked with a one-off payment and can then be used for a full year. The costs are between 59.99 euros and 149 euros, with the packages differing primarily in the included data volume. But for whom are the annual tariffs suitable and which of the three should you choose?
Three different annual tariffs from Aldi Talk
Aldi Talk implements its prepaid tariffs in the O2 network. Customers can top up their credit either by bank transfer or with a voucher, which is available in Aldi branches, for example. With an annual tariff, however, the monthly booking of an option is not necessary, since all services are already included for 365 days from the booking and are settled with one payment. The offered packages are therefore theoretically also suitable as a gift.
With the Aldi Talk annual packages XS, S and L, there are three annual tariffs to choose from. All bring a telephone flat rate to the German networks and an SMS flat rate, which cover the call minutes and short messages accruing in the year. There is also a data flat rate with LTE access, but the included volume varies.

The annual tariff XS from Aldi Talk is the cheapest at a one-time price of 59.99 euros. In addition to the telephone and SMS flat rate, customers also receive 12 GB of data volume. It applies to the entire year of use, so it must be allocated independently. With precise distribution, 1 GB of data is available per month. If customers surf more, they have to save in another month. Conversely, they also have more data volume in the following months if they were frugal beforehand. Once the included data volume has been used up, the surfing speed drops from the previous 25 Mbit/s down and 10 Mbit/s up to just 64 kbit/s.
If an average of 1 GB of data volume per month is not enough, you can choose between the two other annual tariffs from Aldi Talk. The annual package S for 99.99 euros, for example, comes with 50 GB, which corresponds to an average of 4.16 GB per month. Here, too, the maximum speed is 25 Mbit/s. The annual package L is the offer with the most data volume. Here customers receive a total of 100 GB – which corresponds to an average of 8.3 GB per month. With a one-off price of 149 euros, it is also the most expensive package.
Annual package or smart tariff? What is worth more?
Overall, the prices of the three annual tariffs are based on the regular prepaid tariffs offered by Aldi Talk – with the exception of the XS annual package, for which there is no comparable monthly tariff.
Measured in terms of monthly data volume, the annual package S most closely corresponds to the prepaid tariff package S with 3 GB for 7.99 euros. The annual tariff therefore includes more than 1 GB of data volume per month, and the average costs are slightly higher at the same time. All in all, customers are better off with the Aldi Talk annual tariff.
You can also save significantly with the annual tariff L. The average data volume of 8.3 GB corresponds most closely to that of the M package with 6 GB, which costs EUR 12.99 per 28 days. In the annual package, the monthly costs amount to an average of 12.41 euros, so they are even cheaper with almost two and a half gigabytes more per month.

Get a cheap Samsung smartphone in a bundle
Aldi Talk also sells the annual packages in a bundle with a smartphone. Customers pay a one-time fee of 159 euros for the XS annual package with Samsung Galaxy A03s. The smartphone is therefore mathematically very cheap.
A comparison on idealo.de shows that Samsung Galaxy A03s is currently available from a total price of 142.85 euros. The regular annual package costs 59.99 euros, which adds up to costs of 202.84 euros. But the bundle costs only 159 euros – a saving of 43.84 euros compared to the individual purchase.

For whom are the annual tariffs suitable?
The annual tariffs from Aldi Talk are particularly suitable for those who want full cost control. Once paid, customers can make phone calls and surf the Internet worry-free. In order to be able to choose the right tariff, you have to know your approximate data consumption. Because in this area, the three offers are not very flexible. If you choose a package that is too small, the included data volume can become scarce at the end of the year. If you buy the big and expensive one, you sometimes still have data volume left and end up paying too much.
Before booking one of Aldi Talk’s annual tariffs, interested parties should therefore check how much they surf the Internet on average each month. The approximate data consumption can be viewed on the smartphone, for example, in the network or mobile phone settings under “Data usage”. Depending on the operating system, the rubric may also have a different name.
The small XS annual package should be sufficient for WhatsApp and average web surfing. On the other hand, if you stream music and/or videos, you should choose one of the larger packages.
