Alderman sees Defense practicing in monumental school in Meppel: ‘Oops, oops, oops’

A smoke grenade is thrown out of the window and a door is kicked in at the former technical school in Meppel. Councilor Robin van Ulzen sees it happen in a report on RTV Drenthe. “Oops, oops, oops. Something isn’t going right there.”

The former technical school is a provincial monument from 1966. Classes were last taught there in 2014, then by the Stad & Esch secondary school. Five years later the municipality sold the building to a project developer. He wants to realize apartments and office space there. It has still not happened and the monumental school is considerably impoverished and often the victim of vandalism.

And then there’s that smoke grenade. Not a real smoke grenade. A dummy. Defense practiced in the building last month. RTV Drenthe was there and the councilor saw the images on television. That’s a bit of a shock for him. “I immediately called the developer. He assured me that this will not happen again.”
