Michael van Gerwen from Vlijmen is supported by supporters from Brabant on Tuesday evening during the World Cup darts final. They have been singing and cheering throughout the World Cup tournament in the London darts stamp Alexandra Palace (Ally Pally). One of the most eye-catching fans is Thomas Melisse, alderman of the municipality of Halderberge in daily life.
The enthusiastic alderman Melisse is making a name for herself in London and far beyond. A video in which he creates atmosphere in darts stamp Alexandra Palace (Ally Pally) went viral.
Melisse, also deputy mayor of the municipality of Halderberge, was present on Monday evening at the semi-final that Michael van Gerwen won against the Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh. The alderman, dressed in orange polo and with a beer in hand, whips up hundreds of other supporters.
Images show how the mood maker first takes a big draft of beer, puts his hands to his ears and then goes wild to the melody of ‘Hey Baby’, an old hit from Margaret Cobb and Bruce Channel. Melissa counts down (2-3-4-5-6-7-8) and then the audience goes wild. “I wanna know, if you’ll be my girl.”

Atmosphere maker
NAC fan Ferry de Bont posted the images on Twitter. “The best Ally Pally mood makers come from Hoeven. Melisse also responded. “And then to know that this is still a modest video of the stirring up of the Alexandra Palace.” He also posts a somewhat longer version in which he looks from a different angle. The darts are hardly watched anymore, most spectators watch Melisse, who is also an avid football fan.
Melisse did not want to give any further response to Omroep Brabant. He is in the hall on Tuesday evening to see how Van Gerwen will do in the final against the Englishman Michael Smith.
