Alcaraz cannot prevent Spain from the Hopman Cup

Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz also won his second singles at the Hopman Cup in Nice, but was unable to prevent Spain’s premature exit.

The world number one defeated the Croatian Borna Coric 6: 3, 6: 7 (6: 8), 10: 5 in the traditional mixed competition. The Spanish duo lost all chances of reaching the final against Switzerland on Sunday due to the previous defeat of their partner Rebeka Masarova.

Masarova lost 6-2, 6-1 to Donna Vekic. The Spaniards could only have reached the final with a smooth 3-0 win. The duo suffered a 2-1 defeat against Belgium on Friday.

A total of six duos compete in the Hopman Cup, which is being held for the first time in three years. The teams are divided into two groups of three, only the respective winners advance to the final. Each duel initially consists of two individual games. If there is a tie after these two matches, the winner will be determined in the final mixed game.
