This week it’s all about the new records by Casper, King Hannah and OSKA.

By the album title EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURT and the string intro at the start one could think very briefly: Will Casper become the Mark Forster of German rap on time for his fifth album? But then that jagged voice kicks in and the lyrics wander through seemingly every available mental abyss: It’s about depression, bipolar disorder, suicide and death, the climate catastrophe and toxic relationships.

OSKA always sounds a little bit surprised. As if seeing this for the first time now; the flowers, the animals, and last but not least, love. First of all, it’s because of that voice that’s begging and hopping at the same time. The debut album of the Austrian musician MY WORLD, MY LOVE, PARIS underlines her core competencies, but also opens a few new doors.

As the album title I’M NOT SORRY, I WAS JUST BEING ME from King Hannah’s debut record suggests, the duo have little interest in pandering to each other. What Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle stage on their first album with band reinforcement is one thing above all: atmosphere. The electric guitars flicker and simmer, the drums throb ominously and the duo find themselves somewhere between apathy, lasciviousness and menace.
