Alberto Fernández, the autojibarized president

Alberto Fernandez he is jibarized not because of the pandemic, heredity or the war, but by his own decision. Not even because of Cristina Kirchner, who has been transparent about his goals from day one. Everyone, including a good part of Peronism, knew from day one that the economic success of this government depended on abandoning the extravagant ideas of Cristina and Kicillof and apply a model closer to what professional economists recommend. From the hand of Martin Guzman, Alberto wanted to navigate a middle avenue that does not exist (because anything that touches Kirchnerism becomes Kirchnerism), the same path tried Batakis and along the same path, increasingly finite, Massa crawls.

The Kirchnerist economy is oil compared to the water of all the others. There is no middle ground or room for dialogue. Either one believes that the emission generates inflation or one does not. All of Alberto’s finance ministers made a profession of fiscal faith: you can’t spend more than you earn, you can’t finance the deficit with colored pieces of paper. At steak time, however, they all hit the same two walls: Cristina, who doesn’t believe in arithmetic; and Alberto, who made no effort to give them authority. In that specific failure is his general failure. The Republican and Orthodox Albert of 2009-2017 became, out of fear, weakness or whatever, into a Alberto populist and heterodox in government. That decision was his. He can’t blame anyone for the current size of his head.
