Albert Verlinde’s attempt to create a sensation over Humberto Tan’s back cost him dearly. Figuratively then: the fine that the Public Prosecution Service has imposed on him for defamation amounts to about two thousand euros, according to experts, a tip for Albert. However, according to Private boss Evert Sankrediets, he has suffered considerable reputational damage.

Huge blemish

Evert thinks that his former colleague Albert is absolutely not happy with this. “It is of course a huge stain on your reputation and a painful history for Albert,” he responds in Shownieuws.

There is now also a note on Albert’s criminal record, notes sidekick Roelof Hemmen in Eva Jinek’s talk show. The shocked dinner guest Marc-Marie Huijbregts said: “I didn’t know he got a criminal record. And the ribbon, won’t that be taken away?”

“Take the ribbon!”

If it is up to fellow table guest Dolf Jansen, yes. Eva asks him: “I know that people also said to Humberto: ‘Oh, let it rest. Good thing Humberto persevered, don’t you think, Dolf?”

Dolf: “Yes, I think so and I somehow find… Wasting words on Albert Verlinde who does this kind of shit, I think it’s almost a waste of time. I don’t think he’s completely reliable.”

Eva: “No, but we now spend time on the fact that it is being punished.”

Dolf: “Yes, that’s really nice. I say: take the ribbon and leave.”

little bomb

Marc-Marie is very happy that Albert is now being punished like this. “What’s so bad about this, and quite coincidentally I saw that broadcast, is that he said, ‘I’m coming right away with a bomb. I’m going to say something in a moment… Well, that’s going to be a bomb.’ So he thought of it beforehand, like: I’m going to say that there, that’s nice and intense.”

“Whether Humberto calls people after his broadcast or not… He can call anyone he wants! There’s nothing wrong with that. So I think it’s very good that he has to pay that fine.”

Not on appeal

Albert has decided to simply pay the fine and not to appeal. “Verlinde regrets his statements on the one hand, but also the way in which they were then wrongly magnified, despite his actually made statements, efforts to nuance and publicly apologized,” says his lawyer.

“Nevertheless, all interests are best served by closing this issue.”
