Defending champion Alba Berlin is back on the road to success five days after losing the top game against Telekom Baskets Bonn in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
Coach Israel Gonzalez’s team defeated ratiopharm Ulm 91:79 (48:33) in front of their home crowd and celebrated their 30th victory in their 33rd league game. The best throwers from Berlin were Jaleen Smith and Tim Schneider with 13 points each.
In the table, the second-placed Albatrosses are further behind leader Bonn (29:2 wins), who had fulfilled their mandatory task against relegation candidate Löwen Braunschweig (89:78) on Saturday. Meanwhile, the table seventh from Ulm had to accept a setback in the playoff race.
Rostock Seawolves, who have been promoted, kept their chance for the championship round with an unchallenged 99:70 (45:31) home win against bottom-placed medi Bayreuth, who had already been relegated. With a record of 15:17 wins, the tenth in the table caught up with the Chemnitz 99ers and the Würzburg Baskets.
In an exchange of blows with Bayern Munich, which will end the BBL main round in third place, BG Göttingen retained the upper hand with 83:75 (44:41). For Lower Saxony, who bought the playoff ticket during the week and thus ended their twelve-year dry spell, Harald Frey was the most diligent point collector with 18 points. Both teams could meet in the quarterfinals.
The MLP Academics Heidelberg clearly won against the Syntainics MBC Weißenfels with 109:91 (54:49).
