Alba Berlin and FC Bayern start the BBL playoffs with victories

Favorite wins at the start: defending champions Alba Berlin and Bayern Munich started successfully in the playoffs of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).

The winner of the main round from Berlin clearly prevailed in the first quarter-final game against Brose Bamberg on Friday evening with 114:89 (61:45) and took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Bayern clearly beat their “fear opponent” Niners Chemnitz with 77:53 (36:31).

Johannes Thiemann was the best thrower in Berlin with 19 points. The second meeting with Bamberg will take place on Sunday (6:00 p.m./Sport1, MagentaSport and im sport.de-Live ticker) again in Berlin.

“I’m happy about the win,” said Thiemann after the game at MagentaSport: “It was an offensive game. We can play it even smarter defensively.”

Game two continues in Munich on Sunday (8:30 p.m./MagentaSport). Chemnitz had won the two duels in the main round as well as in the cup against Bayern.

Bonn achieves initial success

Meanwhile, Telekom Baskets Bonn celebrated a hard-fought opening win. The Rhinelanders defeated the Hamburg Towers 100:98 (91:91, 41:42) thanks to a last-minute goal after extra time and are going into the second duel on Sunday (3:00 p.m. / MagentaSport) with a lead. The outstanding man was Bonn’s Parker Jackson-Cartwright with 36 points.
